Fiido Air - carbone ebike for the city
The Fiido Air is one of the most intriguing urban commuters on the market. By wrapping a rear hub motor and a Gates belt drive inside a full carbon fiber frame, Fiido built an e-bike that looks, weighs, and pedals almost identically to a high-end traditional road bike.
Here is the breakdown of how it holds up in the real world—divided into The Good, The Bad, and The Odd.
The Good
Insanely Lightweight: At roughly 13.7 kg (30.3 lbs), it is nearly half the weight of a standard commuter e-bike. You can easily carry it up four flights of stairs or hoist it onto a wall mount.
Carbon Fiber Everywhere: It’s not just the frame; the fork, flat handlebar, integrated stem, and aero seat post are all made of carbon fiber. This keeps the bike stiff, responsive, and great at dampening harsh road vibrations.
Butter-Smooth Assistance: The combination of a silent 250W Mivice rear hub motor and a sensitive Mivice torque sensor delivers power instantly based on how hard you pedal. There are no sudden jerks—just effortless momentum.
Zero Maintenance Belt Drive: The Gates Carbon Belt Drive replaces a greasy steel chain. It doesn’t rust, won’t stain your pant legs, and lasts up to 20,000 km without needing lube or adjustments.
Natural "Acoustic" Feel: When the power is turned off, internal motor freewheel mechanics disengage completely. You experience zero magnetic drag, making it pedal just like a light single-speed pushbike.
The Bad
Non-Removable Battery: The sleek 208.8 Wh battery is sealed permanently inside the down tube. Because you cannot pop the battery out to charge it at your desk or in your kitchen, you have to park the entire bike near a wall outlet.
Modest Battery Range: Due to the ultra-slim battery size, realistic range is around 35–50 km (20–30 miles) on a single charge. It’s great for daily city commutes, but not for all-day touring unless you buy an external range-extender bottle battery.
Hard Speed Cap & Single Speed: The assist cuts off strictly at 25 km/h (15.5 mph). Because it’s a single-speed bike (no mechanical gears), cadence gets spun-out if you try pedaling much faster than 30 km/h under leg power alone.
Aggressive Hill Effort: While the motor helps on light-to-moderate inclines, steep hills will still require significant leg muscle since you can't downshift gears.
The Odd
The Smartwatch-as-a-Display: Fiido decided to completely eliminate screen displays from the handlebars for a clean cockpit. Instead, the bike ships with a Fiido Mate Smartwatch that syncs to the bike to show your speed and battery life. In practice, lifting your wrist off the handlebar mid-ride just to check your speed or change assist modes feels clunky and a bit impractical.
Fingerprint Scanner Power Button: To turn the bike on, you touch a biometric fingerprint scanner built directly into the top tube of the frame. It feels like unlocks out of a sci-fi movie, but the color-coded LED ring around the button can be confusing when trying to judge exact battery percentages.
Hidden Frame Tool: Underneath the frame near the bottom bracket, Fiido tucked away a magnetic mini Y-wrench/Allen key holder. It’s a clever little easter egg for quick roadside saddle adjustments, even if it takes a moment to remember it’s down there.

The Verdict
If you want an ultra-stealthy, maintenance-free city commuter that rides like a agile road bike and weighs less than almost every e-bike on the market, the Fiido Air offers astonishing value for its price point. Just be prepared to accept its single-speed limits, non-removable battery, and quirkily minimalist tech setup!
The futuristics
There’s something amusingly futuristic about the Fiido Air. The curved contours of the carbon-fiber frame and internally routed cabling give it a sleek appearance. Some people have chuckled at it, one boy pointed and said, “Woah, look at that cool bike Daddy!” I’m somewhere in between. But I do love the fact that it looks more like a traditional commuter bike, space-age one—than your average clunky electric bike.
As well as the frame, the front fork, handlebars, stem, and aero-style seat post are all carbon. It’s an impressive amount of carbon fiber for the cost, and shows how hard it is to keep the weight of electric bikes down. Being single-speed and ditching the display also reduces weight.
My point of view
Each time i want to buy something costly, I always ask my self: "Justify", setting up my own point, what I must have and what's nice to have, I guess this comes from my daily work as an IT architect, when the buisniss owners want's something new, I always ipmlement "Must have / Nice to have", it's a great way of realising the real benefit on what you are going to order :-)

There is only a single speed drive when manually byking with your own body - no motor. Well i guess I can live with that.- should be able to drive it with our motor assistance
- IoT / connectivity
The Fiido Air does not have a traditional handlebar-mounted display. Instead, ride data and controls are handled either via the fingerprint scanner mounted in the top bar, the basic but serviceable smartphone app, or the Fiido Mate smartwatch.
There is only a single speed drive when manually byking with your own body - no motor. Well i guess I can live with that.
